I find it a very disconcerting that some tnt runners use their donations to cover the trip. I hope you make this very clear to the people who are cutting a check (i.e., $3000 of the $4000 raised will go to research, the other $1000 will cover my airfare, hotel, and meals in hawaii). I gave money once, and I had no idea this was the practice.
I don't know if this practice is standard or not, and I'm not sure I care. I honor a person who goes to great lengths to raise money for an important cause. I honor that person considerably less if he or she uses these donations to pay for a free tropical vacation.
I've only heard back from one person on this.. is this really true? How widespread is it? If it is widespread, do people make an effort to keep expenses down by carpooling to a local race rather than flying to the honolulu marathon?
