An interesting blurb from a runner who wrote about TNT when being solicited. http://www.davidhays.net/running/tnt.html

Personally, I have no qualms nor quarrels about charity runners participating in marathons. If the race has a certain cut-off time, shouldn't anyone who can make that time be allowed to run/walk? I've run Honolulu the last 5 years and they have a major portion of their participants finish after 6 hours. As long as they are having fun and getting some exercise, isn't that what its all about? The fundraising that TNT (and other charities) is admirable and for me, running a marathon is a whole lot easier than having to go door-to-door, business to business in trying to solicit the $4,000 needed to partake in one of their sanctioned marathons. So what if a select % of that money goes back to the participant for their trip expenses? That's just a benefit that comes with the program, just like some of us being able to deduct charitable contributions on our income taxes.

And not all TNT runners are overweight and slow. I was passed by one this past Sunday at the Gobbler Grind and I'm not all that slow. And if they happen to line up in front of you, how many extra seconds would it take to weave a little and pass them up. Its not worth getting riled up over. Just enjoy the marathon.

As for cheating, that should not be tolerated whatsoever. I applaud Rick Nealis for stepping up to the plate and not allowing JeansMarines to participate in the MCM 2006. We train hard for these marathons and knowing that someone might have gotten a medal for not doing the full 26.2, I would feel cheated!
