Charity runner, now a Marathon runner

I joined Team in Training after roughly two months of running. One of my students had just been diagnosed with leukemia, so this was a way to reach out to him (even though I knew it would REALLY HURT!). I barely finished within the time limits of the marathon, but if somebody had offered me the chance to cheat, I would have turned them down. Our coaches ran with us every week, and provided training advice, not "cheats." It's unfortunate that this happened, as it takes only one bad apple to ruin the whole barrel. This experience, no matter how lactic-acid ridden, propelled me into marathon training with a passion. Since that run, I have completed two other marathons for charities (TNT and Team Diabetes, both with excellent coaching), as well as run four marathons for the sheer joy of it AND been an Achilles guide for another. Each marathon found me to be a stronger runner. Some of us DO come back for more runs, as well as abide by the rules.
