I care first because because these women apparently had no qualms about accepting a medal signifying that they had done the 26.2 miles when they knew they hadn't. This was a personal insult to everyone who did go through the pain and effort to prepare for and actually complete the marathon. I care second because these women lied to the people who donated to their charity on the basis that they had completed the marathon. I care third because if charities are willing to engage in fradulent behavior to raise money, they are also likely to engage in fradulent behavior in using this money. We have seen this in other areas already even with such sterling organizations as United Way, Red Cross, and Nature Conservancy. Something to think about the next day you donate money to an organization with Cancer in its name or mission.
