I don't mean to personalize, and from seeing the number of different charity groups, say, in the NYCM, I know there are wild differences in the percentage which goes to charities. But, ultimately, if a donation is tax-deductible, it means you're shifting the taxpaying burden to every other taxpayer to pay that percentage of the donation which doesn't go to the charity' work: the coach, the hotel, the airline, and the fundraiser (who makes a heck of a lot more than most of us.) Meanwhile, those who don't collect donations from everyone they hardly know pay for our own vacations and trainers. (In case you're wondering, I do give generously to charities which are well-rated and use the donations they receive to provide the services they advertise.)
