I always believe that when running a marathon that you should make a honest effort to train and to complete the entire 26.2 miles. I know that every one of the 10 marathons that I have ran, I have busted my behind to go as fast as I am able and make an honest effort.

No, I am not an elite or even pretend to be. but I find it galling for those that would not train proper for the distance or stroll through it and being slower than the cut off time. (I am not talking about the the 2:40 guy deciding to do the race in 3:30)

Rewarding those with a medal for those that do not finish is a disservice for those that do. It's cheating.

The results also should not be tampered with, if you didn't finish, you didn't finish. Seeing the results posted tells us who finished at what time(and prevents those from getting away about lying about their time or even finishing!)

There should be no exceptions for cut off times, If the race states 6 hours and you can not finish in that time, then chose a race (or have the 'coach' chose a race with a more leniant cut off time.) but to bus people to the finish and then say that they finished is just plain wrong. With any proper training you would have an IDEA of what you would finish in by what your time would be in a long training run.

If I did not finish the race, I wouldn't WANT the medal. Charity participant or no.
