Four things on my mind....

1. Shouldn't the ire of people for charity groups getting guaranteed entries be directed at the race organizers and not the charities? Why be mad at them for taking what is offered?

2. I agree that walking versus running a marathon (or any distance for that matter) is different, and the medals could reflect that fact. Approximately 5 hours for a marathon, or somewhere around 12 minutes/mile sounds reasonable to me for a "medal cutoff", _should the race directors decide they want to offer that option_. It's similar to the 24-hour cut- off for belt buckles in many 100 mile races. For the real hardcore people out there, why not suggest/fund/organize your OWN marathon that gives different medals based on finishing time...Larger/more extravagent the faster you finish (I'm thinking 30 min of 1 hour blocks)!!!

3. Regardless of everyones personal thoughts on charity running and cheating, it is obvious that there was/is a lot of pent up emotion/ feeling between 'personal' runners and 'charity' runners. Maybe now the issues being brought up will be addressed better (i.e more running etiquette being taught!!!)

4. I can't help but wonder how much MarathonGuide.com is LOVING how contentious this issue is. How much ad revenue has been generated for them by all these posts and everyone reading them??? ;-)

In my more 'conspiracy theory' days I may have even suggested that some of the more inflammatory posts were made by MG associated people!!!

8-)
