Walking 26.2 Miles is NOT a Marathon

The fact that these people got caught and actually called out on it makes me so very happy.

If you want to give money to charity, give money to charity, that's great. You should be applauded. If you want to test your physical abilities by walking 26.2 miles, that's great, too. You should also be applauded. But considering walking 26.2 miles is about as difficult as writing a check to a charity, you certainly do NOT deserve the title of a marathoner.

A marathon is a competition, and unless you're out there running and competing, you do not deserve the title. I hate the idea of finisher medals. For your first marathon, sure, it can be about just finishing. But after that, get out there and compete.

If the charity walkers want to have their own event, fine, but don't call it a marathon, because that's not what you're doing.
