Marathons are races. Maybe we do our best. Or maybe we just survive. But they are still races. Races have rules. Like not cutting corners. Like finishing within the time limit. Like not being driven to the finish line. Those who do not follow the rules cheapen the races for the rest of us and should be disqualified. They should probably be banned from future entries.
