Some people run so they can eat what they want.
I have to run because I eat more than I want to. For those of you who do not battle food - you will never understand.
I run and walk - The last 4 weeks Run Walk Total 92 13 105 91 13 104 85 23 108 100 17 117
I have out eaten these miles and have put on weight.
Here is what I found generally works for me: 1) The 1st 15 minutes your body store much more of the Glycogen that you ingest - I down a slim fast as soon as I am done running. Then for 2 hours after it stores some more than normal - I try to eat another 400-600 glycogen rich calories in this time. 2) It seems that if I let my body get depleted it craves more, so I try to eat a minimum amount of calories each day to keep from binging - For me the minimum is @ 2,800 (6'2 and 200 pounds) 3) I try to eat good foods - Apples - Yogurt - Carrots - Salad. Carrots = 35 calories per serving - Snickers = 280 per serving.
Summary: I try to take a significant amount of calories immediately after running when the absorption rate is at its highest, I try to eat enough calories each day and surround myself with good food.
I recently ran a 2:49:19 weighing 204 pounds. I know that the 20-25 pounds that I could lose would make me faster. I wage the battle one day at a time.
Good Running - Good Eating
