I don't have much more to add, except to say that the above posting is great advice.

I was having similar knee pain, saw an orthopedic surgeon and he gave me the same advice. Your pain may simply be an "overuse" injury. This can be countered by using all of the mentioned techniques.

In my case, my doctor placed particular emphasis on cross-training to build the quads. This can include swimming, biking, certain weights etc. Take note, however, that if you plan to use weights you do not want to bend the knee more than 30 degrees from a straight position. This will ensure that you are isolating and strengthening the quad. If you are using a bike, raise the seat for the same effect. Good luck.
