Music is somewhat dangerous to listen to because you can't hear cars or others well because of the volume as well as becoming part of a little isolated world. Also, it's nice to have some peace and quiet in your day. On my long runs and recovery runs I like to let my mind drift and be imaginative or just think of things that I need to accomplish for the day. If you don't listen to music, eventually you'll get used to running with out it, and music will seem irratating to run with.
