For years I was a cotton freak like you. I just hated the synthetics for the reasons you described. But 2 summers ago extreme heat/humidity prompted me to revisit the subject. To my surprise, the new materials are easier to care for and feel much better against my skin.
Some are so light, it's very much like running topless. And that 'clammy polyester feeling' of years past has given way to quik drying new fabrics. Give it a try, brother. I don't think you'll be disappointed this time.
