The main benefit of circuit training is it's time effective. Even among serious lifters, doing sets of 2 opposing exercises is all the rage (press and pull down, say). I just find it easier to run through the whole group and then repeat. It may or may not be as effective as traditional lifting, but I get a good R.O.I. considering how much time I put into it.

By alternating exercises one muscle rests while the another works. In the time it takes to do three sets of traditional bench presses with a rest between each set, I can do presses and rows. Because I use machines and can preset 'em, I can do a set of six upper body lifts in ten minutes. I just move from one to the next.

As a side benefit, I get an aerobic workout too!
