Thanks for all the advice - I relate to a great deal of it. I belong to a gym that does not have a pool so water training is not in my future. But I do cross train well. I row (on a concept2 ergo machine about 4 times a week), I lift 2 to 3 times per week, and now I bike when I'm sore.
I agree with Ollie that the bike takes away alot of the soreness from my hard runs and helps to rehabilite me for the next punishing jaunt.
