I've done both water running and biking and I think that the biking is by far a better aerobic exercise that works to strengthen muscles not used in running. Case in point: My mother couldn't run for the entire summer of 99 because of an injury. She spent the summer on her bike and came back to qualilfy for Boston with plenty of time to spare. She's also got me beat on the up hills. I'd stay on the bike.
