So, you're a natural 6-10 guy? I used to think that I was a natural 10 K guy myself. I just loved the distance, especially since a 10 K is what you finish a triathlon with. But then I got (amateurishly enough) into marathon, not knowing anything about me in that distance - so much so that even now I cut my marathons into 4 X 10 K, a distance I most feel comfortable with (I hit the "split" button every 10 K, hoping to stay under 43 each time, course permitting). The last 2.185 is left to the pleasure of eyeing, than crossing the finish line...
My point is, you'll get over the nervous feeling you feel at the thought of the long runs, and first thing you know, you'll be a marathoner AND a 6-10 mile guy...
