Last November I stood on the sidelines of the ING New York marathon cheering for my 24 y/o daughter and thinking about how lucky she was to be able to run a marathon (my thought was I could never do it...too old, out of shape, etc., etc.) Well, my daughter challenged me to do the More half marathon in April. I walked it but finished. During training, I started running 1-2 minutes at a time until I could run a mile, then a 5k...I just got accepted to the New York marathon this November! I am using the ING NY Marathon First Time Marathoner training guide and actually RUNNING now. I have no doubt I can finish the marathon (not worried about time yet (that's the next challenge!). One year ago, I was sedentary and 40 lbs. overweight. I have lost 30lbs. through training and feel great. If I can do it, you can too. Don't let anyone discourage you.
