I read through some of the other posts and felt I should add some info. I currently walk 30-40 miles a week, was hoping to do my first marathon in late October (the Detroit), and would have to say I'm in general good health. What I am looking for regarding training tips is how to improve my speed over such a long distance. I can walk under 10 min/mile, but that is for shorter races (5k).
Having said that, I really welcome any advice about getting started, and the most walker friendly marathons. Thanks!
