Apple is insisting this problem is due to an "anti-skip" protection device. I was told to make 25 min. playlists which should remedy the situation. It is very annoying to fiddle with as you're enjoying a run. Amazing such an expensive device could be so delicate. According to the Apple rep. the new "shuffle" ipod will not have this issue which according to them is widespread.
