Hey North:
It seems that you and I are talking about 2 different things. I am referring to temperatures that hamper race effort, not training runs. More to the point, my 6-minute mile pace during a marathon is markedly different than my 8-minute pace easy run.
Human performance studies indicate that marathons run at 50-55 degrees F yield optimum race performance. Speaking strictly from first-hand experience, the fastest of my 28 marathons have always been run when the temperature is UNDER 60 degrees F.
