Minus 6 is not cold where I come from. I mentioned this in another post: last winter it was actually minus 35 degrees on some of my long runs (and at that temperature, Celsius or Farenheit, it makes no difference!).
Yes you can dress for this (especially if you aleready are a cross country skier) but yes, it will slow you down.
But for me the worst are these 10 degrees C situations (approx. 45 to 50 F)when it's too cold for a singlet or tights, too warm for gloves and sleeve shirts... They are the worst (think Boston) and I can never be fast in such situations.
