Yes, it's possible to train for a marathon a year from now. I'd suggest you find a beginner-friendly training program such as Hal Higdon's Beginner Schedule or Jeff Galloway (if you enjoy the walk breaks). Both are popular and have proven successful with former low-mileage runners. Allow plenty of time to increase your mileage -- a good 5 or 6 months.

Higdon's schedules are online thru Google and the Chicago Marathon site. Not sure about Galloway since I've never done his program.
