Joe, anybody with the last name that begins with 'Z" has got to be alright! In response to your question, this is not uncommon, and if you have been runing for any lenght of time and done races usually 10 miles or longer you see this rather often. I've been running for a few years and never had this happen to me, until recently. Now when doing long runs of 12, 13, 14 miles and running for 2 or more hours a whole bunch of new body experiences (aka pain) are occurring. There has been much writen about bleeding nipples. the most common therapy is heavy doses of vaseline applied to them right before you start your run. Also bandaids to cover them is an option. There are some commercial products available including a gel like product called bodyglide that is used to lubricate any and all body parts where friction and skin irritation can occur. There are aslo nipple guards for the obvious use. These products can be obtained at most running stores or online, at places like Road Runner Sports. They can be delivered in a plain brown wrapper if you prefer. Just kidding. P.S. thanks for your advice on staying focused.
