I agree that there should be more standardization for the weight thresholds. Also, height should be taken into consideration. I think a woman who is 5'11" and 140 lbs could very easily be regarded as svelte!

I do, however, LOVE being an Athena. I try my chubby little best on every run and I'm proud of my efforts. I've lost 130 lbs and completed 3 marathons--the last of which I placed first in the Athena category and for whatever reason, this means quite a lot to me. I'm 5'6" and about a size 6-8 but still over 170 lbs. I let my weight stop me from being a competitive runner in high school and college but have tossed those feelings of inadequacy aside and now do what makes me feel good....which is running! I think the Athena category is meant for people like me. I'm glad it's there.
