I ran the Paris Marathon 1996. Apart from a little problems during pickup of racenumber and start (crowded) it was a very picturesque route. You start in city centre, run out to one end of town where there's a small forest;then run along side the Seine to the other end of town where there's a park from where you return to the starting point. On the way you'll pass a lot of famous historical places. The course is mostly flat apart from alongside the Seine where you pass through a number of tunnels.
It's definitely worth running.
