Boston is one of the best organized races there is, be it 10K or a marathon. I guess they have the 100+ years to get it right. My experience lets me offer this advice, which holds for any marathon, but is particular important for Boston: be careful about going out too fast! It is downhill for about 4 miles. Plus, because of the tightly controlled, and sane, starting chutes, you will be starting next to people that most likely are at or above your ability. With the hype and adrenaline it is easy to go with the crazy sprinters at the start. Don't.
