The Nike 26.2 marathon was very well organized inaugural race. The course was scenic, as we started at the Ocean, ran by the Golden Gate, through the Marina, Aquatic Park, the Embarcadero, North Beach, the Presidio and Golden Gate Park. The course was very hilly!
There were actually more men than I thought there would be...probably about 200 (out of 9,000 participants).
As for the last couple miles, very tough mentally! It was a switchback--out two miles down the Great Highway, and back two miles to the finish. As you are running out the first two miles, you're staring at everyone running into the finish! There was another point from about miles 17-21 in Golden Gate Park where there was a long switchback.
However, the weather was perfect--and overall it was a great day (just not a course for setting a PR). Hope you can make it next year!
