North's argument is hard to refute. Actually, it is hard to argue with anyone who has qualified for, and run, Boston! You certainly would have a difficult time going from your training marathon to a competitive short-distance race such as a 5k or a 10k. But I sense that you are trying to build up your endurance rather than your speed. Your intention is actually fairly conservative in that you plan to jog this training marathon at a 10 mpm pace and then run your goal marathon at a sub 9 mpm pace. I think your plan has merit but do carefully compare North's comments about possible leg and hip injuries, tired legs, and alternative training plans against your own assessment of your abilities.
