I asked a men's-baseball-league player today if he were running the Microsoft 10 miler and he said no, not with his knee. Then he showed me a puffy, grapefruit-sized kneecap. He had slid in the outfield trying to catch a fly ball, but the ground wasn't as forgiving as that in the big leagues. He said his doctor advised him against draining the water in his knee. According to the doctor, the body will develop a way to absorb the fluids. If drained, then the body doesn't learn. You have the case in which you drained the knee once and now want it to heal itself. From the second-hand advice of the baseball player, that healing is likely to be slower for you than for someone who has never drained a knee.
