slow master training for first marathon L.Calvo 4/25/01 3:12:32 PM ET
Hi! I am training for my first marathon (San Diego Rock'nRoll). Yesterday, I did my 18 mile training run and it took me 4:15!!! (in 80degree New Mexico weather) I am doing Galloway's method. I tried walking one minute every 10:30 minutes thinking that I was going to try to run a 4:35 marathon. But I didn't keep anywhere near that pace! (ON the other hand, I feel fine today. Hardly sore at all.) I have done three half marathons: 2:19, 2:17, and most recently 2:10. Any advice out there from similarly paced runners? It is unrealistic of me to try to run 10:30 pace in the marathon itself? How often should I take walk breaks? Any other advice on pacing/training? I am planning on doing one 20 mile training run. I switched to the walk breaks after feeling really worn out by my last half marathon. I didn't switch early enough to get up to a 26 mile training run as Galloway suggests. I wish I had...Oh well. Thanks!
