I read the 2 previous threads on HRM's (10/2/00, 5/17/00) and have a few questions of my own. I'm training for my 1st marathon (Marine Corp) and debating the use (or usefulness) of a HRM. Is it really necessary or should I stick to the old "pulse for 15sec x 4" method? I generally run 9-12mi/ week for recreation and fitness and don't pay too much attention to it. I run at a pace that feels good and go. Never a problem but never a distance over 10 miles, though. Advice? Also, what is a good calculator of Max & Target HR? Following Galloway training and visited Runnersworld.com and similar sites. All that I've seen are similar (200# - Age methods). Are they good or is there a different, more accurate way? Suggestions? Thanks... Hedge
