Sure it gets fun, after your body gets used to it all. You will suddenly find yourself ENJOYING the thought of putting on your running clothes and hitting the roads or trails.
And part of the fun is on Oct 31st at your marathon...feeling pretty good during the event. So, delayed gratification it is.
The other thing I think of when it doesn't seem "fun" to get out on a long run or a mid-week recovery run, is that I'll have less agony at the marathon than I'll have today, IF I get out there today.
