Personally I've never done the Atkins diet. Don't really see why a runner would need to but... Anyway.
I ran a 19 miler on Sunday. Grilled out that evening. From the time I finished my run until Monday night I had little to no carbs. Not by plan, just kinda worked out that way. Tuesday morning I crashed really hard 2 miles into a run. Light headed and dizzy, no energy. I ended up walking home. I contribute it to the depletion of my glycogen from the 19 miler and then the lack of any carbs before my next run. Convinced me that runners have no business messing the Atkins or any of those fad diets.
