It's a very difficult question to try and answer without knowing your bodily background.
This is where the importance of keeping a running diary comes into play. Be meticulous in everything leading up to your race INCLUDING diet!!!
IMHO, you should Carbo load AND H20 load sufficiently before a big run. eg. I usually get up 4 hrs before a marathon and have my last meal and my last 1 litre drink of H2O.
Prior to the race, I do my No 1 AND 2 (2 is a must!!!) and then fill up with maybe 2 pieces of toast and about 250ml of water. Drink sparingly BUT often during the race. Carry your own water bottle if you have to.
