I'm sorry to hear the MCM registration was unpleansant again this year.
Last year, I mailed mine after being unable to access the on-line registration and I did so on the theory that if the on-line registration is so very bad, they would probably revert to some sort of postmark deadline that I could easily get in under ...and that was what they did and the strategy worked. But that was last year and this year, as everyone knows, they had that mail-in lottery system.
Marathon day, as those who have done the MCM before know, is great - there is terrific crowd support. Its worth all the trouble to get in. But I really think the race directors should settle upon one, reliable means of registration. That probably would mean going back to all mail-ins at this point, with or without a lottery.
When I heard about the complicated MCM registration system this year, it was deja vu, and I decided to look at other marathons in the area. There are several choices. Baltimore, Richmond, and of course the suburban Marathon in the Parks (which has a 2,000 runner limit)...
Rumor mill has it there may be a new marathon in DC, maybe as early as March...check out the "regional news" on runwashington.com for a link to the press release.
I hope that everyone who attempted this year did get into the MCM and that you all have a great experience on race day!
