Here is a description of the AIDS Marathon taken directly from the site www.metrosportsdc.com:
"AIDS Marathon organizers this year added a second marathon option, due to a growing number of participants in the training group. Since the programs inception, runners have competed solely in the Marine Corps Marathon, but now a contingent will travel to Dublin for that citys race.
"Marine Corps runners pledge to raise $1,700 to benefit the Whitman-Walker Clinic, which provides support and treatment for people suffering from HIV and AIDS. The marathoners bound for Dublin will raise at least $3,700 for the clinic.
"The AIDS program follows the Galloway method of training: Most runners practice with a specific run/walk ratio and complete a 26-mile run before the actual marathon. More than 1,200 people participated in the program last year, but runners are broken down into training groups of no more than 15 or so. For more information, call 202-543-2786 or visit AIDS Marathon ."
