I'm a first-time marathoner (and my goal is just to finish) who's in the very beginning stages of training for the Cape Cod Marathon on October 31. I've been a casual jogger for a few years, and I've been running pretty regularly since April; I've just started my "official" training this week.
My question is about one of my most favorite subjects: food. Lately I find myself hungry ALL the time, and it's pretty hard to run when I'm ravenous. I've stocked up on PowerBars, but I suspect that if I adjust my eating habits, I won't feel quite so starved.
What specific foods/meals do you recommend for marathon training? I don't want to overeat or eat the wrong things -- should I just start eating more carbs, or what? Is there a more efficient eating pattern (i.e., smaller but more frequent meals/snacks) I should follow?
Thanks in advance for your advice and support -- I'm so excited to be taking this step but I need all the help I can get!
