I've had those cravings myself, ready to eat a horse.

I’m not a running nutrient specialist or any thing of the sort but I am a chef so I no a bit about food and eating. For the most part a well balance diet and follow those good old food groups and it will carry you through. Training for a marathon or any hard work out will use all your energy stores and you will definitely crave to eat more. Try to eat right, 3 squares and all that and you will be a healthy person, no doubt. I have read in one of my books (Runner’s World – Complete Book of Running, edited by Amby Burfoot) that while training a runner should increase their caloric intake quite a bit. Especially more carbs for energy stores, like 450 gms for an average person, and protein for rebuilding mussel tissue. I have been training for my first, and BTW it’s the Cape Cod as well (I posted an introduction of myself to the board on 7/25) and I have found that if I eat some power bars or some such thing with OJ 45 min to an hr before a training run for some ready use fuel. And one of those protein shake things and some fruit (I make mine with soy milk and a banana for the potassium, good for crampy mussels) for some replenishing carbs and some protein to rebuild mussel with after and I don’t get those “eat the whole ice box” cravings at lunch time.

Hope this helps and try and find that book if you can, It’s a compilation of articles and stuff that covers a wide range of questions on training an running and such, then again you may already have it?
