Dear Buzard, Thanks for asking. It wasn't pretty at all. One of my worst but I finished. May not have if I had other options. Quebec City was marathon #26 for me. Very humid for the first half then strong headwinds the last 1/2. Humidity is my Achilles heel. My calfs cramped up at the half, then my quads a couple of miles later, followed by even my toes. Did a lot of drafting, walking and goal setting from post to post. I was taking water, gatorade, electrolytes and gels - nothing was working - only stretching every 10 minutes from the 1/2 onwards. Last year, I did 34 minutes faster on the same course. I felt Boston was my humbler this year - guess I needed one more! Everything was right going into this one - training, nutrition, pacing, track work, etc. Only thing I had no control over was the weather. That's how it works and what makes marathoning so challenging - can't always predict the outcome on any given day. Well, it's back to the drawing board and plan the strategy for New York in November. I tentatively had another local marathon entered for next month. If everything feels good and the weather co-operates, just may do it. The Garmin worked fine BTW. Analyzing mile by mile showed me where it all came apart - somewhere around mile 10. Hope this tale of woe doesn't send the wrong signal out - I love marathoning and wouldn't give it up for anything (except major injuries, of course). Just some are diamonds and some are stones - guess you can tell which one this was. Hope your training is going extemely well. The track work progressing as you'd like? I'm now looking forward to hearing how you do in your 1/2. Wishing you sunny skies, lots of shade, cool temperatures, little wind and of course - no injuries.
