Before using the Garmin, I thought I had a good idea of what my pace was. In marathons, I usually run every mile at the same pace. The funny thing is when training, my pace must be much slower - according to the Garmin. As you mention it's great to use it for distance too. Hopefully I'll have it back in time for the Quebec City marathon this month. It's a flat, fast course. It's great to hear it's your first marathon you're training for. It's always a special one. Good luck with the training. Have you run many halves? NY was my first one and it got me hooked. For a late fall marathon - did Philadephia the last couple years in late November and the weather is usually cool but it does have a couple small hills which can beat up on you after awhile. It's a good scenic route though.
