Garmin training

I find the Garmin most useful for my long runs because of the freedom it provides. I do like to run a specific mileage and the Garmin allows me to deviate from pre-measured routes. We have some rails to trails type paths up here that are easier on the knees and with the Garmin I can jump on these and still keep track of my training fairly accurately. I also find it helpful for doing lactate threshold runs since I can monitor both pace and distance for best effect while avoiding the track (I'm not keen on running in circles).

I was indeed considering Dallas in December. There are not a lot marathon options in December. January is probably too late since I live up north and I can't abide the thought of doing long runs on a treadmill. In addition, I am looking for a course that is relatively flat and fast for my first marathon. Good luck in your upcoming marathon!
