Don't we all love it when it's taper time? You know you did the work, and it's time to cool down and stack up.

Tapering is never the same. It's like being with someone new. You heard and sang the song before but the tune is never the same (or as Bo Didley put it, "Honey, it ain't the ship, it's the waves.").

Tapering is also a disquieting time, if only because there are so many theories out there! For example, today is Tuesday and according to one source I ought to do 4 X 800m at marathon pace + 4 X 400m at 5 K pace. According to another source (the folks at BAA) I ought to run 3 X 2000m at 10K pace. And then there are those who say that we ought to cut down on distnace but keep the speed up and others who claim that the best approach is to slow down and run long distances... What's the thinking out there? I'd like to hear other runners' opinion on this.
