When I ran my best marathon time I cut down on the distance but kept up the speed. No track workouts but 5-7 miles at 20-30 seconds below marathon goal pace. I also practiced doing repeat 220s just to simulate the start where everyone goes out at a rediculously fast pace. I think the 220s helped to experience what it would be like to be out of breath with 25 1/2 miles to go. The Boston start is probably the fastest start I've ever experienced because of the downhill and the excitement of finally starting after the long waiting period.
