You need carbs. Just be wise about your choices - muffin is bad, whole grain toast is good. I'm not saying anything new here. My personal believe is that "fat what makes you fat", not carbs ("good" carbs that is) - it's the buffer and the sugar in your muffin that aren't your friends here. So, eat a bowl of pasta guilt-free. Add lots of veggies. And I would suggest, if you are to increase your carb intake - reduce the amount of fat you consume -> don't use alfredo sauce on that pasta. And skip the cheese. You'll get your energy, not the extra inches around your waist. One more thing I want to add - every year I observe Orthodox Lent: I don't eat animal products, dairy, eggs and no olive oil either. All I have left is bread, pasta, veggies, nuts, etc. I do loose at least 5 pounds (I'm not overweight by any means) on this "high-carb" diet. Good luck!
