Note: While this post might go better in another section, I've posted it here since I think this would be a great tool for First-timers like myself
My Quick Review of the Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS Watch
I was first introduced to this GPS watch while reading this one guys encounter with geeky fitness gadgets (he calls his page: /run). He also gave me the idea to create a site called fitgeek.org :) I would make sure you check out his /run page and look at the things he has to say there...
Anyway, my personal thoughts on this tool are somewhat mixed. Let me get my complaints out of the way... It is BIG! Did I say it was big? I meant huge! :) I'm 6'2" and of fairly big build and this thing lookss and feels huge on even my wrist. It is fairly lightweight so... I found that putting it on my forearm with the extender strap helps tons. So I think I've eliminated the bulk issue.
The other issue is that it takes up to 2-3 minutes for the unit to initialize. Meaning it takes that long for it to link up to the multiple satellites needed to get your current position. Also, if you run in an area with a lot of trees, as I sometimes do, it will lose the signal because it needs a clear sky. This was somewhat of a bummer, and I'm still on the fence whether or not to send it back. I can stick it on my bike though, so I'll probably just keep it.
It has tons of features, but one of the cool ones I like is the ability to tell you your current pace(updates every second or more), and your current distance traveled. Do research on this and make sure it is something you need. I only bought it to make sure I'm keeping my pace at a 9:30/10:00 min/mile. It's quite a bit of money for this feature, but I know it'll get used for other things such as biking too.

Hope this helps...
