It is definitely a balancing act raising two little ones & training for a marathon at the same time...I can sympathize completely! If you are running the marathon just to finish, you may be fine with just one weekend long run a week.

I ran my first marathon last Oct. I started training in May/June & ran just four times a week, sometimes three because of my kids & schedule. The week-day runs ranged from 3-6 miles, with an occasional 8 miler thrown in. The weekend long runs were typical to most training programs...increasing to around 20 miles a few weeks prior to the marathon.

I know everyone is different, but this schedule allowed me to run the entire marathon. Not exceptionally fast, but finishing was my goal, not speed.

Unless you're ready for it, speed work may cause you more problems than it's worth from an injury standpoint.

Best of luck...enjoy the experience!
