Achilles Tendon Pain

I am slowly training for a marathon, and have been experiencing constant pain in my achilles tendons. I've been actively training for more than a month now, and have progressed to 5 miles (adding a mile about every week). I stretch and warm-up well, and really don't know what else I can do. I thought the pain would've gone away by now, but it hasn't. Is this pain normal? Will it ever subside? Should I look to purchase an ankle brace to provide support?

Also, I heard that wearing "high heels" could be a causing factor, due to the way a person's foot is pushed forward while wearing these types of shoes (hence shortening the length of the tendon, making it uncomfortable when the tendon is stretched back out, while running). Does this sound believable? I am a high-heel wearer, and am curious if I should look to change my footwear.
