I went through a bunch of shoes before buying a pair. Go to a running store and try shoes until one fits right. Everyone's foot is different so what may fit you may not work for me. It should fit comfortably from the get go. You should not have to "break them in". Make sure you have enough space at the front of the shoe. Mine are 1.5 sizes larger than my day to day shoes. Just in case you want to know I have Brooks Trance NXG (last years model on line for ~ $50). They have a wider toe box and I over pronate.
