Yeah.... I think you guys are right in that ultimately I'll be the one responsible in making that call. I will be treating the run as an Long Slow Distance run. I bought one of those Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS watch thingies that shows you your pace and whatnot. It has really help me in keeping my pace scaled back to around 9:30-10:00 min/miles. I've been running some of my 3 milers in roughly 8:30 or so pace, and I know that's not the way to pursue this. I need to be able to go the distance.
I've been sticking to the 9:30-10:00min/mile pace and while it's a lot more laid back, I do feel comfortable and still fresh at the end of the run.
Maybe I'll increase the pace here and there, but only by tiny increments over a period of months and not weeks.
Right now I simply want to finish my first Marathon healthy and unhurt. If it takes me 5hrs, then fine, if I do it in 4hrs, then that's cool too. But the point is to finish and I'm not too worried about time at this point.
